How to deal with a 12 year old's meltdown over having a orthodontic expander?
She just had it put in yesterday, it is the metal kind that is connected (cemented) to two of her back teeth and I have to turn it everyday to expand it. She has been in tears ever since. She is having a very hard time adjusting to talking differently, not eating the same. She thinks the world has ended. I'm going to have to turn the key on it tonight, and I'm afraid she'll be hysterical. How to best deal with the emotional side of it? Any teenagers out there who have experienced this who can offer any advice. She's 12, she's embared and thinks she'll be made fun of. Last night we were up with her most of the night with her emotional rollercoaster, I was afraid she might try to pry that thing out of her mouth.
