Should Vermaelen just be a striker for Arsenal?

He is very technically gifted and could be used in the advanced midfield role. However arsenal has too many of these players and not enough thomas vermaelens. It is okay for him to be coming forward against small teams like wigan,he should however be careful against teams with very strong counter attacks like chelsea and spurs
