Filtering dissolved solutes out of a solution?

If something (let's use salt as an example) is fully dissolved into a liquid (water, for sake of the example), is there any way to remove that solute from the solution via a filter without precipitating the substance in some other way? If so, what nature of filter would be required? If you could link to sources that would be fantastic, otherwise thanks for the answers and have a super day!
